Gideon Moi’s presidential plan cripples OKA

The One Kenya Alliance (OKA) comprising Amani National Congress (ANC), Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), KANU, and Ford-Kenya is in a political crisis following a decision by Senator Gideon Moi to go for the presidency next year.

Moi, a critical cog in the OKA wheel is expected to unveil his 2022 presidential blueprint in coming days, a move likely to mark the beginning of the end of the five-month-old coalition.

”As Kanu, we are going to have our own presidential candidate in 2022, the name of our candidate is going to be unveiled before the end of the month,” KANU Secretary General Nick Salat announced on Monday.

According to sources within OKA, Mudavadi and Kalonzo have embarked on shopping for new political allies in the event their alliance dies.

Last week, ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi revealed he was shopping for a running mate from the Mt Kenya region and was adamant he was going for the presidency next year.

The choice of the ANC leader’s words, especially by indicating his desire of having a running mate from Central Kenya have potentially locked out his partners Gideon Moi and Kalonzo from the DP position if they were to back him as the OKA flagbearer.

Kanu SG Neck Salat has pointed OKA is dead and had grown irrelevant, following the collapse of BBI.

”OKA would only have survived if BBI went through. It was reliant on BBI. With the two missteps at the High Court and the Court of Appeal, the situation does not favor OKA. It is time for Kanu to repackage itself and go out there to speak to Kenyans directly. The utterances that are also coming from the people concerned in Oka do not augur well and time is also not on Oka’s side,” SG Salat told a local publication.
