Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has been charged with attempted rape after he tried forcing his penis inside Beryl Akoth Awuondo, a 36-year-old Luo woman.
The senator, who appeared before Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi on Tuesday morning tried to forcefully have sex with Ms. Akoth in January this year, without her consent at the Maiyans Villas Hotel in Nanyuki.
”On January 30, 2021, around the 3am at Maiyan Villas Hotel, Nanyuki in Laikipia East Sub County in the Republic of Kenya, intentionally touched the [woman] without consent,” the charge sheet reads in part.

Senator Linturi was charged with attempted rape contrary to section 6 of the sexual offenses act of 2006, as well as indecent act with an adult contrary to section 11 of the sexual offenses act of 2006.
According to the complainant, at about 3am, she heard the door being unlocked be the senator who walked in and the lights, which were on, switched off. She told detectives that she assumed the person who entered the room was her husband.
“The person started touching her in an unusual manner,” read the DCI statement.

The statement continues the woman told off the person, although he was quiet and both later fell asleep. She assumed it was her husband.
The document says 30 minutes later, the woman heard a knock at the door, and upon opening it, she found her husband outside.
