CS Keter backs DP Ruto’s bid, eyes Kericho governor’s seat

2 mins read

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter says Deputy President William Ruto is the best-suited individual to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta after his term ends in August.

Speaking in Kericho on Monday, the CS also dismissed those who have been going around the county saying he had decamped from Ruto’s camp, describing the talk as nonsense.

”For decades, I have covered a lot of political ground with the Deputy President and I am backing him to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the General Election. There have been claims I do not support the DP or UDA. Those who have been selling the narrative should be ashamed from today henceforth,” Mr. Keter told the meeting at Moi Gardens in Kericho town.

According to sources, Keter is positioning himself to vie for the Kericho gubernatorial seat and is expected to resign from the government in February. The Devolution docket boss is the first senior government official sitting in the cabinet to publicly express support for Ruto’s 2022 bid.

Other than CS Keter, his colleagues in the cabinet who have openly thrown their weight behind a presidential candidate ( Raila Odinga) are Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiangi, Agriculture’s Peter Munya, Joe Mucheru of ICT, and Treasury’s Ukur Yatani.

Mining and Petroleum Chief Administrative Secretary John Mosonik and his Labour counterpart Patrick Ole Ntutu also publicly associated with the DP and UDA in the public rallies in Bomet and Kericho counties.
