A section of the clergy has criticized President Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks, saying church leaders taking stolen money from politicians belonged to hell.

Speaking on Wednesday to TV47, Pastor Anthony who heads the Redeemed Gospel Pentecostal Church in Nairobi told off the Head of State saying they will not take lightly his words and those of Mama Ida Odinga on small churches.

”It is better a thief who steals and takes it to church. We don’t underestimate the words of Ida Odinga. The ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife that if they take over the government they will close all small churches,” he said.

Ida Odinga on January 30th while speaking in Kisumu challenged the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) to “regulate the establishment of churches” and disband small churches.

She said NCCK should also ensure church leaders are taken through training for quality service to the congregants.

“We want worshippers to get quality sermons, that can only be achieved if the priests, bishops are well trained,” she said.

At a meeting with Mt Kenya leaders and supporters at the Sagana State lodge in Nyeri last week, President Uhuru took on church leaders accusing them of being beneficiaries of proceeds of corruption.

“Even church leaders should stop telling lies to our people. Let’s tell the truth, you are being given 3 billion meant for Kimwarer and Arror dams meant for the children of God, then you come to mislead us,” Uhuru said.
