Two Mt. Kenya politicians are emerging as Raila Odinga’s primary picks for running mate.

Peter Munya: The current Agriculture Cabinet Secretary has indicated he is not resigning from his cabinet slot despite a memo by head of civil service Joseph Kinyua for all cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, chief administrative secretaries, and CEOs of state corporations and independent offices to resign.

Munya, the former governor of Meru County, briefly crossed over to Raila’s side ahead of the 2017 elections before returning to Jubilee to back President Uhuru Kenyatta. President Uhuru later appointed him to cabinet in 2020.

Peter Kenneth: The former Presidential candidate in the 2013 polls came out fourth, far behind Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, and Musalia Mudavadi. Kenneth is best known for his stellar management of CDF while serving as Gatanga MP, where he was rated the best MP for five successive years.

The two politicians rank as potential running mates to Raila Odinga, the presumptive Azimio presidential candidate. But there are others, including Dr. James Mwangi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Lee Kinyanjui, and Martha Karua also being considered, per impeccable sources aware of the goings-on in Azimio.

Behind the scenes, jostling is intense, with indications being that the campaign is likely to reveal Odinga’s no.2 after supreme court verdict on BBI.
