Raila Odinga says he has a solution for the people of Mt Kenya currently restive and in political turmoil as President Uhuru Kenyatta finishes his second term. It will be the first time since 2002, that the vote-rich block will not be holding the presidency after the Head of State’s retirement next year.
In an interview with Gukena FM and other Kikuyu FM stations, the ODM leader described Kikuyus as hardworking people who need opportunities and a conducive environment to do their businesses and thrive.
”I have been a friend of the people of Mt. Kenya region. My sons have married daughters from Kiambu and Murang’a. Kikuyus are hardworking people. They only need opportunities and a conducive environment to do their businesses. I have a solution to the challenges facing the people of Mt. Kenya region and I’m ready to work with them,” Raila said.
In his pitch to Mt Kenya, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) also weighed in on the BBI ruling and its consequences, saying Mt Kenya is one of the biggest casualties of the BBI loss.
”We should have let Kenyans decide the changes. If they were bad for Kenyans they would have said no but now the courts have stopped it and we feel it is not right. The region will lose more MPs with the expiry of the protection that was granted to the special constituencies like Nyeri which stands to lose Othaya, Mukurweini, Tetu as well as Murang’a county which is set to lose Mathoiya and Kangema,” the former PM explained.
The ODM leader has also asked DP William Ruto to resign from the government if not satisfied with its policies, giving an example of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who resigned from Jomo Kenyatta’s government on principle after the two founding fathers disagreed.
