President Uhuru Kenyatta is secretly working behind the scene to have his long-time friend and ally Speaker JB Muturi deputize ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2022.
This revelation comes just days after the Head of State hosted a delegation of leaders from the Mt Kenya East region comprising Governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Senators Mithika Linturi, former Ambassador Francis Muthaura, Igembe North MP Maoka Maore, and the powerful Njuri Ncheke council of elders.
Previously, there were reports of a disagreement between the president and a section of his guests who insisted JB Muturi must be on the ballot in 2022, and that selling Raila Odinga in Mt Kenya was an impossible fete.
Contrary to media reports, Uhuru endorsed JB Muturi’s position as the Mt Kenya spokesperson post-2022 and is confident the Speaker of the National Assembly will effectively push for the region’s interest, in the new alliance being cobbled up.
According to a source within the circles of power, the Head of State also took on Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and their UDA politics, telling him openly before the leaders present there was nothing him and the DP will get out of Mt Kenya with the negative propaganda against him (Uhuru).
”The president was very clear from the onset. He wants the region in safe hands and JB Muturi fits the bill. Muturi knows he cannot win the presidency alone. The president wants him as part of the winning alliance, for sake of Mt Kenya,” the source said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is also keen to transfer the Mt Kenya leadership mantle from Mt Kenya West to the East under Muturi who comes from Mbeere.
”Just like he wants the presidency rotated to other parts of the country, the president also feels a replica of the same would happen in Mt Kenya. Between the Kikuyu nation and other members of GEMA communities in Central Kenya,” the source added.
In May this year, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s uncle, Captain Kungu Muingai was a part of Mt Kenya Council of Elders who anointed Speaker Muturi’as the region’s spokesperson.
”As elders from Mount Kenya, we decided on who we wanted to be the spokesperson of our community. We are the ones with all the title deeds of Mount Kenya. All those from the mountain are either our children or our wives. Everyone is ours, even the politicians,” the Mt Kenya Council of Elders Patron said during Muturi’s coronation.
