A section of ODM rebel MPs now want to liberate Luo Nyanza from the grip of Raila Odinga and the ODM Party and have created a Luo Liberation Caucus, chaired by Bondo MP Gideon MP with Langata’s Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang’o) as its secretary.

According to reports, the group comprising six legislators will be going around Luo Nyanza counties starting March, facilitated by State House to rally the people behind the Kenya Kwanza administration for ‘development’ and to tell them being in Opposition and ODM was not an option.

Kisumu East MP Shakil Shabir acknowledges the existence of the group but says he was not a part of it and that his visit to the president was not political in any way but strictly for the development of his constituency.

”I am not in the caucus but I know Ochanda is the chairman. I was told that he is the chairman of the caucus but I even told the President at the time that I had come to meet him as an Independent and not as a member of any caucus,” MP Shabbir said.

However, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, who also went to State House dismissed the group and pledged his loyalty to ODM and Raila Odinga.

”Our visit to State House was well intended, we will continue engaging different levels of government with a clear conscience on matters development. As for politics the only liberation movement we belong to is ODM,” said Mr Nyamita.
