Following a series of high-powered BBI meetings by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, the two camps have resolved to have the BBI Secretariat carry on with its activities. This follows days of push and shoves after the secretariat was closed down by high-ranking officials Harambee House officials, who had hijacked the process.

Junet Mohamed and Dennis Waweru assured the Head of State and Raila Odinga the bill will be passed in parliament and delivered to the president by end of next month.

“We are on track. If Parliament passes the bill next month, the President will receive it and give it to the electoral commission as required by the law,” Mr Mohamed said.

On his part, the Secretariat’s Co-chair Dennis Waweru said they have engaged the IEBC on possibility of an August referundum, and they are looking forward to it.

“If we talk of within 90 days, we can have the referendum even after two days. Of course, we will need time for the campaigns. We have been engaging IEBC and hope it will be ready to conduct the vote in the shortest time possible,” the former Dagoretti South MP said.
