Deputy President William Ruto has trashed claims of the existence of a deep state planning to manipulate results of next year’s presidential election in favour of ODM leader Raila Odinga. Speaking in Kakamega county on Thursday, the DP said leaders running around claiming top government officials plotting to rig the polls was just an idle talk.
”I hear those associated with our competitors peddling propaganda that the hustlers will win, but the system and the deep state will steal our votes. Listen to me, no one will steal our votes. It is not possible to steal them anyway in the first place. The stories you hear some people running around with that their votes were stolen are just but excuses,” Ruto said.

Last month, allies of Ruto in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) alleged Interior CS Fred Matiangi, his PS Dr. Karanja Kibicho, and ICT CS Jose Mucheru are not suited to be a part of the 2022 general elections planning committee and may be plotting to rig the presidential elections in favour of the former prime minister.
“Mucheru and Matiang’i’s time has come to an end. It should never happen that people who are supposed to serve the public take sides. We cannot trust them, we don’t believe in them because they have already branded themselves as ODM,” Kandara MP Alice Wahome said in October, remarks which were supported by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
“And if the president for whatever reason requires these two ministers to be in his government then he can move them to other dockets that have nothing to do with the elections. The people of Kenya cannot be comfortable and cannot accept an election that is being managed by people who are clearly partisan,” said Gachagua.
In September during an interview on Citizen TV, Nyandarua Governor and former secretary to Cabinet and Head of Public Service Francis Kimemia confirmed the existence of “deep state”.

“All I can say is that deep state works. The voters vote, deep State also includes people in the villages. It goes up to the polling station and it doesn’t necessarily mean rigging,” Kimemia said.
