Allies of Deputy President William Ruto claim senior officials from the Office of the President have received instructions to organise and facilitate electoral fraud in favor of the state in 2022. Speaking to the press in Nairobi on Friday, the leaders comprising MPs plus Senators from Rift Valley and Mt Kenya regions claimed on July 7th, PS Karanja Kibicho through his deputy Moffat Kangi wrote to the IG demanding facilitation including the formation of a special police unit specifically for next year’s general elections.
”The aim of these unnecessary, illegal, and outrageous orders is to increase the state’s ability to manage the outcome of the 2022 general election by instigating violent chaos in various parts of the country, ” the statement read in part.
Among the orders, the leaders claim to include the establishment of a sub-committee to develop criteria to guide the government’s measure to arm chiefs and sub-chiefs across the country, to prepare a concept note on the proposed establishment of a police unit for National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO)- a replica of the defunct AP unit as well as the nomination of three senior police officers in the unit.
In response, government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna dismissed the claims terming them as fabricated lies and that the nation cannot develop in an environment where there is chaos.
“As a government, we are focused on one thing, and that is development. Development cannot be undertaken in an environment of chaos and violence. Nothing can be further from the truth,” Oguna said.
“People who are perhaps not popular on the ground are looking to hold onto something. But this is a government that is not focused on anything else other than development which cannot be achieved when there is no peace, stability and unity. That is the agenda of President Uhuru Kenyatta and all of us are aware of it,”he added.
