Bolt, the popular taxi-hailing app is under fire after a lady passenger’s hand was cut by its driver.
According to reports on social media, a lady identified as Susan Waithera was assaulted by a bolt driver Samuel of KCR 244Y with phone number 0753299533.
Susan stated that on Sunday, August 29, 2021, she requested a cab near Diamond Plaza in Nairobi. Upon reaching her destination, the driver demanded Sh780 as opposed to Sh270 which was indicated on the app. This is when an argument ensued.
“Nikakataa nikasema I will cancel and request another ndo akajam akatoka na rungu akagonga bro yangu then akatoa kisu. Akienda kukata bro yangu kwa kichwa nikamstop tukaanguka na yeye akanikata akatoroka,” Suzzy narrated.

Responding to the same, the taxi company gave a different account of events adding that the passenger wanted to force her way into the cab accompanied by more than the required maximum passengers.
“The driver explained to the rider that he cannot carry beyond the licensed capacity of four passengers. The rider didn’t want to listen and her friends proceeded to physically attack the driver” the company said.
The company further called on the passenger to pull down the post from social media in order to be offered a promo code for free rides, a move that angered Kenyans.
Kenyans have since taken to social media to narrate their worse encounters with the company while ideally calling on people to resist using it labeling it unsafe.
For instance, a section of netizens has claimed the app is unsafe for women going by the various cases of assault by drivers.

The company has since implored a PR stunt by introducing a “women only” option as a guarantee to the safety of female passengers.
