Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has hinted at picking a running mate for his 2022 Presidential bid from Central Kenya.

In an interview with Inooro FM, Mudavadi revealed that the Central Kenya region has political muscle hence might sway the 2022 elections.

For instance, he cited that the region has produced three Heads of State who are Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki and the current head of State Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Eeh, inawezekana. Kwa sababu watu wa mlima Kenya wana umaarufu wa kisiasa katika Kenya. Tumepata viongozi watatu ambao ni wazaliwa wa mlima Kenya ambao wamewai kuongoza taifa letu. Na hawa ni watu ambao wanapenda biashara na mambo ya uchumi…kwa hivo labda inaweza fanyika.” he said.

This comes after Raila intensified his hunt for votes in the region. Reports revealed that several elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region, including Governors, Senators, and MPs are a part of Raila Odinga’s 2022 campaign team and will be unveiled soon.

The squad expected to champion for the mountain region’s interests inside the former prime minister’s camp include Governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), James Nyoro (Kiambu) and Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), MPs Amos Kimunya (Kipipiri), Maoka Maore (Igembe North), Kanini Kega (Kieni), Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa), Peter Mwathi (Limuru), Maina Kamanda (nominated), Ruth Mwaniki (Kigumo), Mary Wamaua (Maragua) and Joseph Nduati (Gatanga).

”That is propaganda that is being used by the people vying against him. We have used it before because we had a candidate vying against him. Unfortunately, the people who are using it now do not come from Mt Kenya. We have decided that Raila is our best bet to take over from the President and we know what to do. Just watch the space,” said Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni
