Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro says the war between Russia and Ukraine has affected the global food supply chain, including Kenya, a departure from Kenya Kwanza’s position last year during the campaigns when the alliance said the war did not have any effect on Kenyans.

Speaking on Wednesday night at a panel interview on Citizen TV, the Kiharu lawmaker also blamed the importation of fuel for the current high cost of living being witnessed in the country.

”The Russia-Ukraine war has had a big effect on the global food supply chain and also in terms of prices including in Kenya but we cannot keep on ranting. There has been global inflation.

”All our fuel products are imported and therefore when there’s a variation in terms of the currency at which we pay, then that cost spirals to what we pay at the pump. That is the reason why fuel is high,” the MP said.

The legislator defended Kenya Kwanza’s controversial 2023 Finance Bill and assured Kenyans their recommendations and views will be taken into consideration before the bill is passed.

”I want to assure the Kenyan people that for the last 2 weeks, the process that has been ongoing of taking their opinions, all those opinions I can assure them will be incorporated.”
