Mt Kenya UDA MPs have intensified their efforts to reconcile with former President Uhuru Kenyatta whom a number of the lawmakers say will play an influential part in the 2027 election, given his strong network in the region. They believe Mr. Kenyatta remains a political force to reckon with in 2027 especially based on the performance of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Reports indicate the talks with Uhuru are being pushed by Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina and they began after President William Ruto went against DP Rigathi Gachagua’s hard stance over possible dialogue with opposition chief Raila Odinga.
”Uhuru was able to marshall support for Azimio leader Raila Odinga and for the first time, he garnered over 800,000 votes from Mt Kenya region. We need these votes in our basket in the next General Election,” the Kieni MP said.
MPs James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), and John Kiarie KJ (Dagoretti South) have thrown their weight behind the Kieni legislator on his quest to have a set down with Mr. Kenyatta, even after Rigathi Gachagua dismissed the idea last year December.
The group is depending on an elder belonging to the Kiama Kia Ma group and the three MPs in the group who have a good rapport with Uhuru Kenyatta to make their mission succeed.
“Our electorate has huge expectations and we fear that some of our promises may not be met in 2027. This would mean that if Uhuru makes true his decision to remain active politically, he could sponsor our opponents to take our seats,” a UDA MP from Nairobi said.
