Narck Kenya leader Martha Karua says she will not be Raila Odinga’s running mate in 2022 and that she has her eyes trained on becoming the next Kirinyaga governor, something putting her on a collision course with Anne Waiguru, the current governor who will be defending her seat.

Speaking to a local publication on Saturday, the former cabinet minister said no one from Mr. Odinga’s camp or any other political formation has approached her with an intention of making her their running mate and her main focus is the Kirinyaga gubernarorial seat.

“I have not declared to be someone’s running mate nor have I been approached by anybody, I had already indicated that I will go for Kirinyaga Governor and I am already on the ground doing it,” Karua said, while cautioning Kenyans against leaders dismissing small parties in Mt Kenya.

”I also lead another national party known as the Narc-Kenya. I am telling Kenyans the dangers of returning to the single-party era. It took such a long time, it took tears, sweat and blood for the country to return to plural politics,” she added.

Deputy President William Ruto has told Mt Kenya politicians who wish to work with him in 2022 to dissolve their respective political parties and instead join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

”Recent history shows us that when parties are whipped, coerced, or through whatever means forced to join one forum, there is trouble ahead. At this stage of our democracy, rushing to one party is rushing to oppression,” the former cabinet minister said.

Currently, the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat has attracted a lot of interest, with the county Woman Rep Purity Ngirici and current county chief Anne Waiguru throwing their hat in the ring for the UDA ticket.
