In September last year, ODM leader Raila Odinga graced one of his online supporter’s birthday parties in Githunguri, Kiambu County. Gideon Gichuki, a youth leader, was surprised when the former prime minister honored his invitation after he sent the former prime minister a text message. Raila was in Zambia attending the swearing-in ceremony of President Hakainde Hichilema when he received Gichuki’s message.
Speaking at MKU grounds in Thika, at a meeting with Kiambu youth and leaders this morning, Gideon Gichuku disclosed the heifer gift from Mr. Odinga had delivered a healthy calf he has named ‘Azimio’.
”It was my birthday on the 4th of September and texted him. At that time he was in Zambia. When he returned he gave me a call and he came home to grace my birthday. I learned he is a leader who listens, and one who transforms. When he came home, he gifted me a cow which was due in three months. It gave birth in January and I named him Azimio,” the 22-year-old said.
“I attempted to get the ODM leader’s number and a friend showed me how to get it online. I started chatting with the former PM and to my surprise, he responded courteously and we have been chatting since then,” he added.
“I believe the family can continue to supplement their earnings once the cow starts giving milk, which you can sell and get some income,” Raila said in September after handing over his gift.
Odinga is currently in Thika to officially kick off his Azio Movement’s presidential campaigns.
