Azimio Movement leader Raila Odinga will tomorrow, Saturday 15th hold his first presidential campaign at the Thika Stadium, a rally described as one of a kind.

The venue, in Kiambu county is already set with systems in place to host Mr. Odinga and his entourage of leaders from the region and from around the country. Tents have been pitched and all the sound systems mounted in readiness for the major rally.

The host, Kiambu Governor James Nyoro told a local publication Odinga will hold two meetings tomorrow – a town hall gathering 1,000 Kiambu leaders representing political, women, youth, PWD, and business community and then the public rally at the stadium where he (Raila) ditched his father’s Ford-Kenya party in 1995 following chaotic delegates conference pitting him against Kijana Wamalwa.

“This meeting will address the local issues to do with representation, revenue sharing, completing the Uhuru legacy projects, and the welfare and well-being of our people. Baba will also have a chance to say what Azimio stands for and why it is the best for our people, ” Governor Nyoro said.

The town hall meeting is likely to be held at the Mt Kenya University graduation pavilion near the 12 Engineering Battalion on the East of Thika.

According to Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi, who also leads the Azimio presidential campaigns board, the meeting has been organized by the leadership of Kiambu and the county will have the largest number of attendees.

”Although we expect attendance from across the Mt Kenya region, the Kiambu leadership has organised this meeting and they will obviously have the largest number of those who will grace it. We expect a rally in the realms of Kibaki Tosha that was held at Uhuru Park in 2002,” Governor Muriithi said.

The significance of the rally at Thika is mostly because it is the de facto headquarters of the Southern Kikuyu in Murang’a and Kiambu and its diaspora in Nyandarua, Nakuru, Nairobi, Machakos and Ngong counties.
