Infotrak: Nassir ahead in the race to succeed Joho with a 48% rating

Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir is ahead of his competitors in the Mombasa county gubernatorial race and currently polls at 48%, according to the latest survey by Infotrak.

Released on Sunday afternoon the poll also shows Azimio Coalition is the most popular party at 51% with Raila Odinga, its flagbearer touted to win the presidency by 52% of the respondents.

The cosmopolitan Mombasa county is regarded as an ODM bedrock and the party’s candidate is likely to be elected governor in the upcoming elections. Outgoing governor Hassan Joho is the ODM party deputy leader.

The county’s gubernatorial race is among the hotly contested seats in the country after the Nairobi election and the presidency.

Currently, the Mombasa contest is a two-horse race pitting the Mvita MP against businessman Suleiman Shahbal whom he will be battling out for the ODM ticket.
