Govt Offering Free Tree Seedlings for National Tree Growing Day

President William Ruto will launch the National Tree Growing Day on Monday 13th November at Kiu Wetland in Makindu, Makueni County, an exercise where every Kenyan participating will receive free seedlings.

According to Interior PS Dr. Raymond Omollo, National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) will be supporting the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry in coordinating the exercise which is part of Kenya’s Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Programme aimed at growing of 15b trees.

Dr, Omollo, while urging Kenyans to participate in the exercise that President Ruto will lead noted that County commissioners have already convened technical planning teams in their respective counties, comprising representatives from the Kenya Forestry Service, the National Environmental Management Agency (NEMA) among other government and non-government stakeholders.

”The President will launch the exercise at Kiu Wetland in Makindu, Makueni County. At the County level, tree-growing activities will be championed by Cabinet Secretaries, in at least two Counties, hosted by respective Governors and supported by Principal Secretaries, County Commissioners, and other Government officials,” Dr. Omollo’s statement reads in part.

The government has released free seedlings for the Monday 13th exercise and Kenyans have been advised to visit their nearest Chief offices to pick them.
