Governor Kingi hosts Raila Odinga in Ganze amid talk of Coast political party

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi is currently hosting ODM leader Raila Odinga in Ganze, Kilifi county at a time when the former is agitating for the need of a political party for Coast people. Raila Odinga is on a six day tour of the Coastal strip, to consolidate his base ahead of 2022 campaigns.

Governor Kingi has been at the forefront, agitating for a single political vehicle the region, outside ODM Party. However, there are reports legislators allied to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho have failed to agree on whether the region should dump ODM for a new political outfit.

“I am determined to unite the region. Times of using the Coast as a pedestal to power are over. We need a voice and platform we will use to bargain with the rest of the country,” Kingi said, adding, “My push is not a selfish one; people in the region are seeking a party that we will use to argue issues unique to us as the Coast. I have decided to champion the people’s aspirations.”

Last week on Monday, despite the differences in opinion over a coastal party, Kingi and Joho agreed to protect the region from other political formations.
