When Will the Government Settle to Deliver for Kenyans?

2 mins read

Two years after the last general election, President William Ruto and his Cabinet seem to be back on the campaign trail, with a series of meet-the-people tours across the country.

The latest entrant into this political exercise is Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, who recently held several roadside rallies in Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County. While the tours may be aimed at engaging the public, they raise questions about the government’s focus on delivering its promises.

Kenyans had hoped that by now, the government would be fully immersed in implementing the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.

Affordable education, accessible healthcare, lower costs of living, and infrastructure development such as water and electricity connections were key campaign promises. Instead, these meet-the-people tours and rallies suggest that the administration may be struggling to shift from campaign mode to governance.

After two years in power, it is disheartening to see Ruto and his regime seemingly prioritizing political optics over policy formulation and execution.

The country faces numerous challenges that require urgent attention, particularly in addressing the cost of living and improving public services. Many wonder whether these political roadshows are an admission of the government’s difficulty in managing the affairs of the nation.

While engagement with the public is important, the government must strike a balance between listening to the people and actually delivering on its promises.

Kenyans are looking for more than speeches; they need tangible solutions. It remains to be seen when the administration will finally settle down to fulfill its mandate.
