Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu is back in the political trenches and is now setting her sights once again on the Kitui gubernatorial seat, in a renewed bid to reclaim the county’s top office and revive the development agenda she once fronted.
She was among the opposition heavyweights who attended the Joint Council and National Executive Committee meeting chaired by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at the SKM Command Centre on Monday, August 3.
For Ngilu, however, the bigger story is closer to home. Her return to the front line is being read as the opening move in a fresh Kitui contest, where she is banking on her previous record in office and her long-running political brand to make another run at the governor’s seat.
Ngilu served as the second Governor of Kitui County from 2017 to 2022. She is renowned as one of Kenya’s first three female governors alongside Anne Waiguru and the late Joyce Laboso.
The former county boss has already made it clear that she intends to seek the seat again, positioning herself as the candidate best placed to restore what she describes as the county’s stalled development and industrial push.
