A section of leaders in government feel the President is being undermined by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.
This is after Mr. Kenyatta’s Wednesday directive to former CS Dr. Fred Matiangi to form a committee of other former CSs who served in his cabinet and work with the family of their colleague the late Prof. George Magoha to ensure the former Education CS gets a befitting send-off.
”There is only one president and what UK (Uhuru Kenyatta) did speaks volumes. The general feeling is he is antagonizing the Presidency,” a source who spoke on condition of anonymity notes.
Mr. Kenyatta appointed Prof Magoha to the Education docket in March 2019 after serving as chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), a position that he held from 2016.
“Eagles always just keep flying. When the eagle is going, it just disappears into the air. That is just what is going to happen to us. As the president’s handymen you expect us to go with him,” Prof Magoha said in a valedictory message in August 2022 after President Uhuru left office.
The former Head of State on Monday eulogised Prof Magoha as a celebrated academic who leaves behind a strong legacy of public service.
“It is unfortunate and painful that we’ve lost my friend Prof George Magoha at a time when his family is mourning his brother,” the former President said as he wished the Magoha family God’s comfort during this difficult period of immense grief.
