Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected at the ongoing United Nations 27th Conference of COP27 on Climate change in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, where he is scheduled to make an address in his capacity as the African Union Envoy on Climate Change.

Raila Odinga has been in the North African country since Monday evening attending the global summit as the African Union Infrastructure Envoy.

Last week, the EAC postponed mediation talks between the government of DRC and M23 Rebels which were to take place in Nairobi for a week from 7 to 14 November after Mr. Kenyatta, the Great Lakes region peace envoy leading the peace-talks confirmed his attendance at the COP27 Summit.

”The postponement has been necessitated by the confirmation of an earlier scheduled meeting of the DRC Special Envoy to the Nairobi Process, who is required to travel for consultations to the UNSC in New York.

“At the same time, the EAC facilitator of the Nairobi Process will be participating in the COP27 climate discussion in Egypt in his capacity as the AU (African Union) chair of the AU climate change committee,” the EAC said in an earlier statement.

Mr. Kenyatta will lead the talks from 21 to 27 November.
