Uhuru elavates to Court of Appeal judge who annulled 128 state appointments

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Justice Jessie Lessit to the Court of Appeal, despite her being part of a bench that annulled the Head of State’s appointments of 128 Parastatal Heads in 2018 Unconstitutional last week. The president on Thursday gazetted 34 of the 40 judges the Judicial Service Commission had recommended in 2019.

Justices Jessie Lesiit, Chacha Mwita and Lucy Njuguna on May 27th concluded eventhough although the President had powers to do make the state appointments, the process was flawed and was not competatively done.

The Katiba Institute had challenged the Head of State’s appointments, leading to the annulments.

Apart from Justice Lessit, others appointed to the Court of Appeal are are Msagha Mbogholi, Hellen Omondi, Mumbi Ngugi, Francis Tuiyott, Pauline Nyamweya, and Imaana Laibuta.

Judges appointed to the Employment and Labour Relations Court are Baari Christine Noontatua, Gakeri Jacob Kariuki, Keli Jemima Wanza, Mwaure Ann Ngibuini, Matanga Bernard Odongo Manani, Rutto Stella Chemtai, Kebira Ocharo, Kitiku Agnes Mueni-Nzei, and Nderitu David Njagi.

Environment and Land Court has Mboya Oguttu Joseph, Naikuni Lucas Leperes, Mwanyale Michael Ngolo, Addraya Edda Dena, Kimani Lilian Gathoni, Kamau Joseph Mugo, Wabwoto Karoph Edward, and Koross Anne Yatich Kipingor.

Others are Gicheru Maxwell Nduiga, Mogeni Ann Jacqueline Akhalemesi, Ongarora Fred Nyagaka, Christopher Kyania Nzili, Mugo David Mwangi, Omollo Lynette Achieng’, Washe Emmanuel Mutwana, Nyukuri Annet, Murigi Theresa Wairimu, and Asati Esther.
