Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday morning met former Mt Kenya Jubilee Party MPs and aspirants who lost in the August 2022 election at his Karen residence in Nairobi where the group resolved to work together in the taking over of Jubilee Party from Uhuru Kenyatta.

Today’s Karen meeting comes days after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) ratified the ouster of Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice Chair David Murathe as party officials, dealing a huge blow to former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

EALA MP Kanini Kega, the acting Secretary General of the splinter group attended the forum.

”I had a reunion with my former colleagues in the 12th Parliament. We were best of friends, but we parted ways when bad politics creeped in after the infamous handshake on March 9, 2018. We have taken time to catch up and review the politics that divided us,” Rigathi Gachagua wrote in a tweet after the meeting held at the official Deputy President’s residence.

”They have committed to support the President and his Government. They have equally undertaken to support the Members of Parliament, who unseated them and allow them the opportunity to serve the electorate. They have distanced themselves from Azimio La Umoja One Kenya demonstrations and attempts to revive criminal gangs to cause violence and mayhem in society,” he added.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya has accused President William Ruto of sponsoring a coup against Uhuru Kenyatta, the Jubilee Party leader, through the Kanini Kega group.

Azimio has threatened to resume anti-government street protests should the ouster bid against Mr. Kenyatta by politicians allied to the president continue.
