President William Ruto has revealed plans to table a proposal before Members of Parliament to recruit an additional 20,000 teachers this year.
Speaking over the weekend in Teso South, Busia County, President Ruto emphasized the critical role of education as an equalizer. It expressed his commitment to ensuring that every child in the country receives a quality education.
“This year I will take a proposal to Parliament. I want the MPs to hold discussions so we can employ 20,000 more teachers to educate our children,” President Ruto declared.
Highlighting the government’s dedication to education, President Ruto also announced hiring 2,000 more teachers for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that no class lacks a teacher.
“We will hire more teachers to educate our children so that no class will lack a teacher. That is our commitment to our people,” President Ruto affirmed.
President Ruto further addressed concerns regarding tuition fees and the allocation of funds for education, stating, “We released Sh62 billion in January to educate our learners. Managers of institutions should stop taking advantage of the vulnerability of our people to force parents to pay school fees.”
