The Government will deliver 17 tons of Bt cotton seeds to farmers Friday in Busia County, kicking off President William Ruto’s plan to revive the cotton sector.

A total of 12,000 Kenyans have been registered as cotton farmers on the Kiamis platform as Busia targets to plant a total of 11,253 acres in the first phase.

The government further intends to put 42,000 acres of land under cotton production with expectations of 800kgs of lint and cotton seed cake per acre, translating to more than nine million kilograms; three million kilograms of lint and six million kilograms of cotton seed cake.

In a statement on Friday morning, the government has further revealed it delivered 82,000 bags of fertilizer to the Malaba NCPB depot ready for disbursement to farmers in readiness for the planting season.
