Nyeri county chief Mutahi Kahiga says the Mt Kenya region is being undermined by their partners in the new Kenya Kwanza administration and has warned the region will not take lightly any attempts to undercut its force in the regime.
Speaking yesterday in Nyeri during the swearing-in of his cabinet, Governor Kahiga revealed Mt Kenya leaders have started to notice deceit in their marriage with William Ruto, something that manifested itself during the EALA nomination.
“We want to say that we will walk this journey together if possible. But we want to make it clear we have not been married by anyone who thinks that they can solely decide to take us here or there. It is very early in this marriage but we want to say that the signs are very telling,” Governor Kahiga said.
UDA Legislators from the Mt Kenya region on Thursday strongly lobbied for Kanini Kega, former Kieni MP to clinch the EALA nomination in Parliament.
The MPs felt they were ‘betrayed’ by their Rift Valley UDA counterparts who plotted and joined hands with MPs from Western Kenya, Ukambani and Coast to deny the region’s nominees a slot in the EAC Assembly during a voting session at State House.
Kega was one of the nine contestants elected to represent Kenya in the Arusha-based Assembly after garnering 197 votes to join Winnie Odinga, Suleiman Shahbal, and Kennedy Kalonzo as the representatives of the Azimio Coalition.
