Mvurya snubs DP Ruto, pledges allegiance to the president

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has been conspicuously missing from DP William Ruto’s coastal tour which ends today. Deputy President William Ruto has been on a three-day campaign tour, covering the counties of Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa.

Mvurya, according to reports, is uncomfortable in the increasingly arrogant and violent Tanga Tanga outfit which has been insulting the country’s top leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta.

”He is positioning himself as a national leader. He is among the most senior leaders in the region and has pledged to work closely with Uhuru for Kwale people. He is not in for politicking,” a source confided to this writer.

Mvurya played a critical role in Feisal Bader’s win as Msambweni legislator last year December. At a closed-door meeting on Monday, Governors Hassan Joho, Amason Kingi and Salim Mvurya resolved to ringfence the Coastal strip from ‘outsiders’ as the region positions itself to be in a single camp ahead of 2022.

A second meeting has been scheduled for Voi on February 9th and 10th, where it is expected all elected leaders from the region will make known their political stand.
