Two Muranga MPs have accused Water CS Alice Wahome of not campaigning for the UDA candidate in the just concluded Kandara by-elections and instead, the CS opted to support the party’s opponent in the MP mini-poll held on Thursday.

County Woman Rep Betty Maina says Alice Wahome tried to settle political scores with the UDA candidate and MP-elect Chege Njuguna, due to their rivalry which has been on for quite some time.

“We know Wahome been supporting another candidate despite having been elected on a UDA party ticket before she was appointed to the cabinet. We should have teamed up together but instead she opted to go behind our backs to support a different candidate,” the Woman Rep remarked.

Chege Njuguna, who polled 21,650 votes to win the seat on Thursday was in the race to secure the Kandara parliamentary seat in the August poll under the Chama Cha Kazi party where he came in second after Wahome.

Betty Maina’s sentiments were echoed by Maragua Mp Mary Waithira who said Wahome ought to have supported the UDA candidate instead of going for someone in a different party.

“We need to retain our unity as leaders in the area because we are all under one party and our goal is to serve the people,” she said.

Titus Njau Mbuchu of Ford Asili and who was backed by the Water and Irrigation CS garnered 14,678 votes.
