Isaac Rutto: Why I left Uhuru and Raila to join Ruto

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto says his decision to abandon his earlier pact with President Uhuru Kenyatta and join DP William Ruto, was informed by the continuous tribulations facing DP Ruto in government. Isaac Rutto, who leads Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) for the first time revealed him joining hands with the DP was to protect him from a joint Uhuru and Raila force.

“When I saw my brother (DP Ruto) had been left out and subjected to tribulations by the Jubilee administration including Odinga whom I had supported, we chose to unite to rival them,” Rutto stated.

Isaac Rutto was one of the four NASA Principals who backed Raila Odinga in 2017. Other principals were ANC Party’s Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya and Raila Odinga of ODM. The former Bomet governor explained the circumstances under which he supported Raila in 2017 and what became of it after the last general elections.

”When my brother (Ruto) went to the mountain (Mt Kenya), I decided to go to the lake…so when I tried to pull my candidate who was stuck in the swamp it became difficult because the force that came from the hill (Uhuru side) was immense and used gravity that it swept him and that is why I ditched him,” Rutto told a function at Chesron in Bomet Central.
