Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that the government is set to kick off another phase of registration of farmers, in readiness for the second phase of fertiliser distribution.
Speaking yesterday in Nandi County, DP Gachagua noted that the move targets farmers who had not been included in the system, during the first registration exercise.
The DP additionally called on Kenyans demonstrating to stop the protests and get themselves registered to get subsidized fertilizer in order to help lower the cost of living through enhanced productivity.
“Wiki ijayo tunatangaza another program muambie watu wenu wawachane na maandamano waende wajiandikishe wachukuee fertilizer waende kwa shamba. Hi maneno yote inaishia kwa shamba,” he stated.
Further, the country’s second-in-command stated that the first rollout of the subsidy programme was fruitful and farmers who had registered themselves are likely to record a bountiful harvest.
“This year, we will have a bumper harvest from the maize farms. Right now, we are looking for enough maize dryers so that farmers easily get access to them. The government and farmers will share the cost of drying maize,” he stated.
He reiterated that the government was determined to ensure that the program is a success.
