The government has joined forces with LIPTON Teas and Infusions, the leading global marketer of Kenyan tea, to elevate tea farming standards and enhance the sector’s growth. This collaboration is set to revolutionize the tea industry in the country.
President William Ruto on Thursday 22nd February 2024 unveiled the strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the quality of Kenyan tea to align with international benchmarks. He emphasized, “LIPTON has committed to support the ‘Kenya Origin’ tea classification, ensuring farmers secure fair returns.”
The President highlighted the pivotal goal of enhancing farmers’ incomes and creating new avenues in the tea value chain. The collaboration seeks to brand tea from Kenya distinctly as a mark of excellence on the global stage.
Speaking at the launch of the LIPTON Tea Innovation and Technology Academy at State House Nairobi, President Ruto outlined the academy’s role in equipping farmers with modern tea cultivation techniques. He stressed the importance of shifting from quantity-driven practices to quality-focused approaches.
