The government will shut down over 1,000 pay bills for government services and instead will use a new one, 222 222, according to President William Ruto.

Speaking in Nairobi on Friday at the launch of Gava Mkononi, a mobile app where Kenyans will be able to get over 5,000 government services online, the Head of State asked Kenyans to use the new Pay Bill pay for all services and urged the public not to be duped to use other pay bills or mobile accounts.

”No citizen should be told to pay for service outside this pay bill. All Kenyans must know that if they have to pay for the government services it has to be 222 222.The expectation of this government is that all revenue must go through the Pay Bill 222 222 so that Treasury can have oversight of every government service that is paid for,” President Ruto said.

During the 2022 campaign, one of Kenya Kwanza’s promises was digital transformation in the delivery of government services.

With the unveiling of 5,000 out of 7,000 government services on digital platforms today, the government says Kenyans should expect seamless service delivery, an improved public access to government information, data driven development and access to government opportunities online.

President Ruto’s government is also keen on helping Kenyans cut cost while making manual applications to government institutions. Previously, members of the public have incurred costs for manual applications which entails filling forms, physical document copies, and more.
