H.E Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged artists and musicians to play a pivotal role in preserving and promoting good cultural practices and traditions through their art.

Speaking at Honi Resort in Kieni for the Ngogoyo Ya Rware music extravaganza, the Deputy President emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering the growth of the creative economy.

The Deputy President said security agencies will no longer disrupt cultural events as he called upon elders and those in charge of traditional cultural processes to develop structures to prevent distortion and misunderstanding of history and culture.

“Cultural events will no longer be disrupted by security agencies. But the elders should make sure their events are not hijacked by people harboring bad intentions and those who would propagate the wrong things, support practices overtaken by time, or misguide people into cultic practices,” said DP Gachagua.

DP Gachagua also challenged event organizers to replicate such activities in other counties within the Mt. Kenya region.

The music extravaganza, attended by thousands, celebrates Kikuyu music legends known for promoting Agikuyu culture, beliefs, and tradition.

H.E Gachagua underscored the importance of unity within the Mount Kenya region, urging residents to reject divisive politics. He emphasized the need to love and support one another as a community, safeguarding cultural heritage and traditions.

The Deputy President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to cracking down on illicit and illegal brews. He distinguished between legal and illicit alcohol, promising interventions to eradicate poisonous drinks.

He expressed concern over recent deaths from poisonous alcoholic drinks in Kirinyaga, while emphasizing the government’s resilience in undertaking measures to protect the Kenan youth from such dangers.
