Malindi Town MP Aisha Jumwa says Parliamentarians from the Coastal strip have betrayed Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi in his quest to have the region under one political party. Speaking in Kilifi during the International Women’s Day, MP Jumwa warned Governor Kingi to deal with caution when engaging Coast MPs.
“Kindly deal with my colleagues with caution. They will support you in “Tufe” (the slogan for Coast unity) and dump you to back Joho’s presidency bid through the Orange Democratic Movement,” Ms Jumwa warned the governor.
Currently, only MPs within Kilifi county support Kingi’s drive of a regional political party. They are Gertrude Mbeyu, Ken Chonga (Kilifi South), Teddy Mwambire (Ganze), William Kamoti (Rabai), Paul Katana (Kaloleni), Christine Zawadi (Nominated) andSenator Stewart Madzayo.
On the other hand, Governor Joho’s wing believes the region is one of the pillars of the Orange party, and its interests are sufficiently covered in the Raila Odinga-led party. The Mombasa Governor believes his chances to be the next president are high within ODM. Already, Joho has the support of more than 25MPs from the region.
