Muranga Woman Rep Sabina Chege has her eyes trained on the Kigumo MP seat in August this year despite announcing in July 2021 that she will be battling it out for the county’s gubernatorial seat.

According to reports, the Woman rep, also a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta has thrown her weight behind former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau to go for the governor’s seat, and in turn, Mr. Kamau will support her bid to become the next MP for Kigumo.

”She will be going for the Kigumo MP where her home area is. Jamleck Kamau will be the next governor on the Chama Cha Kazi ticket,” a source confided to this writer.

Speaking in Murang’a county last year, Sabina Chege asked area residents to support her bid to be the next governor saying she is ready to deliver on her mandate as the county chief if elected.

“I will be vying for the Governorship of Murang’a and I pray that the people of Murang’a will support me. It is not because I am the best but it is through God’s grace that I believe I will be able to transform Murang’a,” the Woma Rep said while also defending her ability to steer the county towards development saying her current post has prepared her for the task.

I have been the County Woman Rep for two terms now. I understand my people, I understand where things are going wrong and I understand where I am going to improve,” she said.

“Above all, I am a mother. I will be able to bring everybody together; our education professionals, our young people, our elder people so that we bring back Murang’a’s glory,” Chege added.

Already, more than eight aspirants have shown interest in the Murang’a seat that has been occupied by Governor Mwangi wa Iria for two terms. Other aspirants are Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata, Water PS Joseph Wairagu, long-serving civil servant engineer Henry Gaate, ex-Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, and former Planning Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera.
