Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been ousted as the Jubilee Party leader in a coup by a faction allied to EALA MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege, who has been installed to act as the new party leader.

Making the announcement on Tuesday at the party’s Kileleshwa headquarters, Kaini Kega said the decision to overthrow Mr. Kenyatta was made by the Jubilee National Executive Council during a meeting held on Tuesday and attended by 22 out of the 28 members.

“The office of the party leader is hereby declared vacant and pending the decision of the NDC the Hon. Sabina Chege will be the acting party leader of the Jubilee party,” the EALA MP said at the press conference.

Last week, Uhuru Kenyatta issued a notice for a special National Delegates Conference to be held in Nairobi on 22nd May 2023 at the Bomas of Kenya.

In his notice as Jubilee Party leader, Mr. Kenyatta listed three issues among them, the review, formulation, and approval of party policies as part of the meeting’s agenda.
