Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo says it is time Kenyans from the Rift Valley and Mt Kenya regions left others to be at the helm, after six decades in power. In a Friday morning tweet, the ODM legislator revealed while giving an explanation to the word ‘Dynasty’ the two communities (Kikuyus and Kalenjins) want to continue to lead the country after the Jubilee term comes to an end next year.

Kenya’s first president and the nation’s founding father Jomo Kenyatta was of the Agikuyu extraction. He ruled from 1963 to 1978 when he passed away. He was succeeded by Danel Toroitich Arap Moi, who was the Vice President at the time of Jomo’s death. Moi, from the Rift Valley, was at the helm for 24 years, til 2002 when he retired from office.

Kibaki won the 2002 general elections with an emphatic margin using the Rainbow Coalition. He retired after ten years and was succeeded by current and the fourth president, Uhuru Kenyatta. Both Kibaki and Uhuru are Kikuyus.
