All roads to Thika as Raila officially kicks off 2022 campaigns

Azimio Movement leader Raila Odinga will hold a mega rally in Thika on the 15th to kick off his official 2022 presidential campaigns. Speaking in Nairobi on Tuesday during a meeting with youth from Kiambu, the former prime minister disclosed he will use the Saturday meeting to outline his agenda to the people of Kiambu and Muranga counties as he seeks the top seat.

“Saturday, we are in Thika. We are going to have our first public engagement in 2022 in Thika. All roads will lead to Thika. We are going to speak to the people of Murang’a and Kiambu in Thika,” the ODM supremo said.

The choice of Thika to launch his presidential campaigns is of huge symbolism, considering it is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s hometown and in a region the former prime minister has always faced stiff opposition from 2007.

It was also in Thika that Raila’s led NO team launched the 2005 campaign against the draft Constitution alongside Uhuru Kenyatta as KANU leader, and other members of the Orange team. The campaign would culminate in the defeat of the Constitution, which was being spearheaded by President Mwai Kibaki, and the eventual formation of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Currently, Odinga enjoys the support of Kiambu county MPs including Ng’ang’a King’ara (Ruiru), Wanjiku Kibe (Gatundu North), Peter Mwathi (Limuru), Jonah Mburu (Lari), and Jude Njomo (Kiambu Town) from Kiambu county.
