People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) MP George Koimburi who clinched the Juja seat after beating the Jubilee Party candidate last month has been fingered by Juja residents and business contractors for engaging in corruption on his first month as their legislator.
According to media reports, Mr. Koimburi started showing his other side when he replaced the entire CDF office after getting sworn in as MP. The CDF team has been in office since 2013 the late MP Francis Waititu was elected to office. The new MP also fired late Waititu’s son who was working at the CDF office.
Apart from changes in management at the constituency office, the MP has also been accused of meddling in the ongoing public infrastructure projects within Juja, with his wife, Margaret demanding kickbacks from contractors.
”She threatened to have our tender canceled if we did not do what she wanted. She sent a pin location of the construction site she wanted us to deliver two hundred bags of cement,” Mr. Rober Ikua, a contractor with Citropeek Ltd is quoted by a location publication.
Back at the CDF office, the MP has also been accused of being biased towards issuing CDF bursaries. Sources disclose the MP’s relatives and his associates, tasked with giving the funds to needy students are discriminating against those perceived to have backed Mrs. Susan Waititu in the mini-polls.
George Koimburi who is linked to Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria and Deputy President William Ruto won the Juja Parliamentary seat on May 18th, with 12,159 votes. He floored Jubilee candidate Susan Njeri, who came in second with 5,764 votes, as well as nine other candidates in the race.
