Several injured as Mombasa residents repulse Sonko’s attempt to disrupt Azimio rally

Mombasa residents on Saturday thwarted impeached Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s attempts to upstage the Azimio brigade in Mombasa at the Mkomani grounds where flagbearer Raila Odinga was holding a political rally.

Sonko, who had planned a late entry after Raila Odinga to bring the proceedings to a standstill and make a political statement during the rally was met by a rude shock after Mombasa residents blocked him from accessing the podium, forcing the Wiper gubernatorial candidate to leave the venue in a huff, mowing through the charged crowd with his SUV.

An eyewitness confides to this publication hell broke loose when the former governor’s aides tried forcing him to access the dais, leading to a gun being drawn by one of his bodyguards who shot in the air to scare off the crowd. Several people are feared to be injured in the stampede.
