Kenyans on social media have asked William Ruto to sack his daughter, June Ruto, who has been holding a state position since 2014, following his yesterday’s remarks that leaders and public officials should stop appointing family members into government positions.
June Ruto, DP Ruto’s firstborn daughter joined the diplomatic service in 2014 and had previously been serving as the second counselor in the Kenyan embassy of Rome, Italy before being appointed as the country’s Chargee D’Affaires in Warsaw, Poland.
A Chargee D’Affaires (CDA) is a diplomat who heads an embassy in the absence of the ambassador. Such a role is usually created when two countries do not have full diplomatic relations.

In such cases, the CDA is usually appointed as head of an “interests section,” which maintains diplomatic relations at a level below that of a formal Embassy.

The fact that Kenya does not have a fully-fledged embassy in the eastern European country confirms her role as a senior representative of Kenya. June, who holds a degree in International Communication is described as enthusiastic and knowledgeable on matters of international relations.
Speaking at a rally in Baringo on Sunday DP Ruto said leaders should not be nepotistic and appoint their family members to state jobs whenever a vacancy arises, and that minority leaders should be given equal opportunity.
“Wewe tayari ni mkubwa, wewe unachukua ndugu yako na unampatia kazi. You are already a powerful figure in the country and you take your family members and give them government jobs. That culture must stop in Kenya, we must have a country that shares opportunities evenly so that even the minority can be part of the decision-making process in our country,” Ruto said while lashing out at his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta who he has accused of handing his family members lucrative positions within the government.
