Inside Raila’s powerful meeting with Oparanya, Joho, CS Wamalawa, and Orengo day after Ruto-Oparanya rendezvous

ODM leader Raila Odinga’s political engine is grinding at its optimum. Just a day after Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya held a nine-hour meeting with DP William Ruto, the ODM Deputy Leader was in Karen, at Raila Odinga’s residence with the ODM Leader and top party officials.

Now, rivals and allies are confused, in the same fashion. Pondering what Mr. Odinga, Kenya’s political magician, has rolled up his sleeves and will serve in coming days.

Governors Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya are the only two ODM members who submitted their application for the party’s 2022 presidential ticket.

An earlier April 1st claim Odinga had proffered his presidential papers was dismissed by the party’s SG Edwin Sifuna, that it was a Fool’s Day prank. Also, at today’s high-level meeting were Kisumu boss Anyang Nyongo and Minority Leader in the Senate James Orengo.

However, it is the presence of Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa that continues to raise eyebrows.

Even though some may argue the Devolution CS is not actively engaged in country’s politics, others say, he is the only senior politician from Mulembe nation currently in government and has been intentionally coalescing around Raila, with a prospect of working together in 2022.

Today’s meeting was a powerful political convention, tied by a common history and bound by the future of Kenya. Just like the ODM party promised two weeks ago, it is cobbling up a powerful political alliance that will shake the country’s political terrain.

CS Wamalwa joins the growing list of leaders who have met the ODM leader this week. Others are Amason Kingi, Charity Ngilu, Mohammed Kuti, Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, Kivutha Kibwana and Mukisa Kituyi.
