Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has spoken for the first time over his much-publicized meeting with DP William Ruto at the Maasai Mara on Thursday. Speaking on Friday, Oparanya, who is also the Deputy ODM leader revealed the DP approached him over a possibility of working together, a decision he told Ruto was only to be made by ODM Party.
”It was a chance meeting. Being a politician, the DP asked if we can work together. I told him such a decision has to be made by the party (ODM),” Governor Oparanya told a local publication.
Sources at the meeting say William Ruto was accompanied former Cabinet Secretaries Mwangi Kiunjuri and Rashid Echesa. Both sides flew in at the Mahali Mazuri camp aboard choppers on Wednesday afternoon for the meeting.
“The two sides flew to the hotel on Wednesday afternoon, held a meeting in the evening and another around 11 am yesterday before they all flew out,” a source said.
The meeting has sent tongues wagging over a possibility of Raila-Ruto working together. However, some say the meetings are a part of a wider scheme of the ODM leader to cobble up a formidable political formation ahead of 2022.
