President Uhuru Kenyatta has convened a meeting of leaders and opinion shapers from the Mt Kenya region next month, February, at Sagana State lodge in Nyeri to rally his backyard behind the Azimio la Umoja Movement as well as explain the genesis of his fallout with DP William Ruto.
According to reports, the Head of State has been waiting for the passage of the Political Parties Amendment Bill (2021) in both the National Assembly and the Senate before taking on his deputy head-on in Mt Kenya.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has so far held two meetings at Sagana State Lodge and this will be the third one in his second term as Head of State.
Sagana 1 meeting was in January 2021 where the President rallied his backyard behind the BBI, while at the same time castigating his deputy for attempting to penetrate the Mt Kenya region using the backdoor and that he did not promise to hand over power to Ruto.
It was also during this gathering that Uhuru asked Ruto not to take credit for the performance of a government he bashes in rallies across Mt Kenya.
Eight months later in September, President Uhuru convened Sagana 2 meeting. Here the president revealed he was not opposed to those who wanted him as prime minister and did not mind the position once his term as president ends.
He also told legislators present he was going to mount an aggressive campaign against William Ruto in Mt Kenya at the right time and that the region should wait for his signal on who to back for the presidency in 2022.
