The One Kenya Alliance comprising Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is pouting over a move by senior State House officials, to settle on Interior CS Fred Matiangi as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s preferred successor.

There are plans by the country’s power barons, to field several candidates and crowd the 2022 presidential field, to give CS Matiangi an easy second-round win. Plotters of this scheme also target former UN boss Mukisa Kituyi, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, to back the Interior CS in the second round.

“The president has taught us about politics of development and Fred will do very well in continuing with the good work. He is young and is a new face,” ICT CS Joe Mucheru, one of the promoters of the idea told a local publication.

Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga have been identified as the strongest candidates in 2022. The two are also expected to pick a PM or a DP from the Mt Kenya region hence making the region’s vote split among different candidates. Giving Matiangi an easy sail if backed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Senior members of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration like James Macharia have started giving hints of a Matiangí presidency, and a slogan ”Lazima Kazi Iendelee” has been coined for the CS’ 2022 bid.

”That is why we continue saying ‘kazi iendelee’. That means having someone like Matiang’i who has been the chairman of the projects implementation committee… When it gets to 2022, Kazi lazima iendelee,” Transport CS James Macharia told Muranga residents last month, in the presence of Matiang’i.

State House operative Nancy Gitau and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho are mentioned as the key drivers of this new initiative.
