Migori Governor Okoth Obado over the weekend snubbed Deputy President William Ruto’s tour of Migori county pointing to a growing wedge between the two leaders after DP Ruto insisted the Migori county boss fold his outfit and join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) if he wanted to back him (Ruto) for the presidency.
Governor Obado has been a frequent host of the deputy president in his county, with the most recent one being December last year.
According to reports, the Migori county boss is on a tactical retreat after the ground became too hostile to him, with tags of being a traitor.
”The ground has shifted politically. The governor is weighing his options and [decided on a] strategic retreat. His dalliance with the deputy President has earned him the ‘traitor’ tag, which he is keen to shed off,” a close aide of the governor told a local publication.

During one of his stops in Kuria, allies of the DP tore into the governor for insisting on his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yet the outfit had no national appeal.
”DP has no appeal in Migori. Our plan is to popularise UDA in Nyanza and Governor Obado’s association with UDA has brought about unnecessary tension in the party since he has come up with a list of aspirants and delegates,” Kuria West MP Mathias Robi said while describing PDP as a village political party.
Other MPs who accompanied the DP were Kitayama Marwa (Kuria East), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Njuguna Kawanjiku (Kiambaa), Johana Ngeno (Emurwa Dikiir) and Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango).
